During a factory trip to Italy in 2017, Shutt was introduced to Green Soul from Italian fabric manufacturer MITI. Green Soul is a ground-breaking new fabric line made with fully recycled fibres. We were so impressed with both the quality of the product and eco-friendly philosophy that we made the decision to, wherever possible, use recycled fabrics for everything in our retail range. And offer recycled fabrics as an option for our custom teamwear service.
How is it made?
The process starts with reclaiming waste, and we’re not just talking about your old bib shorts and jerseys. Anything made of nylon can be recycled, including things as diverse as carpets, clothing, fishing nets and industrial plastics. Much of the source material comes from landfills and oceans. Nylon now accounts for about 10% of the debris in our oceans. For example, fishermen often just dump their old nets because paying to dispose of them properly is expensive.
Once gathered, the waste is sorted and cleaned to recover as much of the nylon as possible.
Then, through an innovative regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled back to its original purity. This means the fabrics produced is the same quality as brand new nylon. Nylon actually has the potential to be recycled infinitely, without ever losing its quality.
Great for the environment in on many levels. We love it.
